I want to get my 3 year old used to using a computer without the danger of breaking/deleting anything, at the moment he's kind of hands off - are there any Windows apps that set up an environment where he can click around, switch between (educational!) games, looking at pictures, interactive things etc. More to get keyboard/touchscreen experience than anything else.

Does something like that exist?

Would something like a tablet/Chromebook be useful?

We also have a tablet (Android) I just want some software that is locked down so he can't mess with settings, look at other files etc. And preferably not just one thing/game, but things he can switch between.

Buy something like an old thinkpad (like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lenovo-Thinkpad-X240-Co...redfaceW0AAOSw0ptbZGPc)

They're built like tanks anyway.

My wife is a reception / year 1 teacher and she says she always finds it hilarious when the new kids come in and haven't got a clue when a keyboard and mouse is put in front of them, along with a non-touch monitor. They usually just grab the mouse and rub it on the screen hoping it will do something!

(incidentally, I think that kids should always start with a windows/macos environment to work on when it comes to proper computer interaction, and then work 'backwards' to something like a chromebook - apart from the odd person, chromebooks are still really only used in the real world, for real work in small percentages).
