I bought an Agfa A4 1212U flatbed scanner many years ago. This scanner served me well for years of intermittent use, but took up residence on a shelf and stayed there, I would like to scan in some documents (lock down tidying up).

The software was designed for win2000/98 so it doesn't work with Win10. Does anyone know of any software (preferably free), than can get this working again, so I don't need to buy a new scanner for a few documents.

According to the AGFA website, they stopped supporting these in 2001 (I assume there are member on PH that are younger than that...), but suggest VueScan, that might work?

Has anyone got it to work?

Thanks in advance

Not with your particular scanner, but yes I have used it to drive a Nikon Coolscan & a Plustek. Your scanner is listed as supported & it's free to download & try (I think it puts a watermark on the scans though).

I'd definately give it a go.

Have you tried installing and running the original software in compatibility mode?

It's sometimes a bit flaky, but it has got me out of a hole a couple of times!

It works, argghh the power that I have a working scanner again, the old documents I can now scan and recycle the paper version bounce another step closer on minimalist living.

I can live with the watermark, it is right across the middle of the page diagonally, oddly the quality is not up to the standard of the software that came with the scanner 20 years ago, but I am happy with the result.

Thanks everyone... Mission Successful smile

Jolly good. When you say the quality is not as good do you mean the scan quality? There's lots of settings to play with in the Vuescan software, but at the end of the day if it's just bills & the like then it's not crucial.

I like NAPS2 for scanning, you can set up so you just press an F key to scan and save something, which is nice when you've got loads of docs to go through.

I use the Adobe scanner app on my smartphone quite a lot for work as well as home. Good for keeping copies of receipts that fade out after a few months.

Has good ocr and quick and easy to use. it's free, no watermarks etc. Easy to save file to computer as well.
