I have an Asus i5 Laptop, win10. The problem I am having is it disconnects from the internet. Sometimes it will be fine all evening, others it will disconnect twice in 5 mins. The annoying thing is the only way I can reconnect is to either shut it down or send it to sleep and reconnect, it won't reconnect from the desktop; it simply tells me it "cannot connect".

Anyway, it is annoying, so can anyone give me a great solution to this that will take 2 mins of my life and solve the problem forever?
Any ideas?

This has happen to me a few times, usually reset the (windows laptop) WiFi adapter and problem solved.
Other occasions takes a lot longer usually after another Windows 10 update, something has gone wrong with the IP address, going into the command prompt (search the internet or youtube) and typing a few things sometimes work as well, plug in the ethernet cable when this problem doesn't work then next day it is back to normal.

Also being with VM my Windows laptop is 7 years old laptop wouldn't connect to the router after a VM reset/maintenance they do around 1am GMT-1 or 2am GMT, none of my more modern devices have had this problem, Huawei 10plus, iPhone 6S, MacBook Air.

The other half’s work laptop was doing this, but only when connected to power, on battery it was fine

Their IT took a look and decided to replace, it was up for renewal anyway.
Same issue

Turns out it was the router, once that was replaced it was fine.

I have no idea how a router could cause such an issue, but clearly that is what it was.

Makes no sense that a router would behave differently with the laptop being powered differently imho

Reinstall the network drivers - I'd also test it on a cable to the router to see if it does the same that way

I have this too with an old Dell XPS laptop, never got to the bottom of it. Quick fix for me is to go into the network settings and disable and re-enable the wifi card, it connects straight back up.

Try looking at properties for the WiFi card, select the Power Management tab and check that 'Allow this computer to turn off this device to save power' isn't selected. This setting can often cause this problem Turn it off if it's set.

Thanks everyone, it appears to have solved itself, it hasn't happened since a new version of MS edge was forcibly installed by Microsoft (I feel violated).

So I think we have found the culprit, so for years of swearing at the laptop, it may have been a software issue!

Cheers, and hope your enjoyed Thursday, I know I didn't laugh
