Morning all,

My current, 10 year old 24 inch monitor had gone pop frown so I need to replace it.

The only use will be office stuff - video calls, email, Excel, ppt, Word etc, no gaming. Budget ideally ~£200, other than size, what type of stuff separates these two? Anything of note?

Samsung C27F390 27" Curved LED Monitor

ASUS VA326HR 32" Full HD 144Hz Curved Monitor

Any guidance / recommendations would be appreciated.

They're both VA type panels, which are generally preferred for gaming (faster response time) but considered less good than IPS for office work.

Do you want to consider a higher resolution (say 2560 x 1440) if you're looking at a monitor larger than 24" ?

Out of the two, I would go for the Samsung one you've linked.

The ASUS one is a 144hz monitor which is designed for fast paced gaming where that sort of thing counts.

They're both 1080P, which is what I would say the max size for good 1080P experiences is 24 inches.

I'd be more pushed toward a higher resolution if used just for office type work. Something like a 1440P monitor means that you have more 'usable' space, and can fit more stuff on the screen at one time.

If you really wanted to go mad, there's an ASUS 4k display on Amazon for £230. You need to be sure your computer has the power to drive all of those pixels smoothly. Most 'should' do these days.

One important difference between your two: The Samsung one doesn't have speakers.

1920x1080 resolution is pretty poor for a monitor that size.Personally I'd go for something 27", 2560x1440 for general use.

I haven't tried a VA panel, but IPS ones are still pretty good: Viewsonic 27" WQHD for £207

Most modern PCs will have no problems with HDMI at this resolution, but if you've got a 10-year old monitor.... frown

I'm working from home at the moment so using my 1440p 27" widescreen monitor rather than my smaller (can' remember the size), 1080p 4x3 monitor at work. I'd say it's a decent size/resolution for work use, I can have 2 documents open (win-left and win-right were a revelation to me) at a decent readable size. At 1080p the text doesn't look that great.

So my suggestion would be look to up the resolution to 1440, but don't worry about response times and refresh rates, 60hz will be fine for office use

Some good recommendations above

I think 24 inch and 1920x1080 is fine still

Considering that

or cheaper

https://www.novatech.co.uk/products/dell-ultrashar...

If you want to have 2560 on a 27 inch monitor considering just general work then something like this perhaps

https://www.box.co.uk/Philips-275E1S00-27-QHD-IPS-...

Trying to recommend a monitor without seeing the screen is a tricky thing of course.;

You have a wealth of choice....

I just bought this Samsung 28" 4K and it is very good. Worth noting though that only the HDMI2 input is 60Hz, HDMI1 is 30Hz. It was nearly returned to Amazon until I discovered that little secret. Don't really understand why they'd do that? Anyway, very good image quality and only a smidge over budget.

I've just bought, delivered this morning, an Iiyama XUB2792QSU-B1 27" QHD VDU. It was <£260. I'm impressed. Good colour, with no fades or other distortion on the edges or corners, great angle of view. I use it for Blender - and it's perfect for it. I've briefly tried Powerdirector and Affinity Photo, and both were impressive. For wordprocessing, the extra quality over the HD 24" ACER is remarkable. I have a dual screen set up, with an additional 24" screen. The difference is remarkable. My budget was £350 or thereabouts, and I thought I was taking a bit of a risk at £260, but then, I could always send it back of course. But I'm hooked.

I've no idea whether it is suitable for high level games, or how good the speakers are - I've got external ones.

Got to https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/iiyama-ProLite-XUB2792Q...

I note that the price has increased to £260.02. I paid £257 plus some pence.

I'm impressed by the all-round quality. The stand, for instance, is sturdy, shake free, and has lots of adjustment. The height control is counter-balanced so
I hope it lasts. The only criticism I've got is that the controls are hidden and slightly offset from the legend on the front. However, it was the same for the VDU it replaced and the 24" one I still use with the Iiyama. They must train their IT engineers to look at the controls and then move an inch or two before doing the legends. That said, the default setting are OK, and adjustments, when you've found the buttons, is easy and intuitive.

Slightly OT, but I'm a little gobsmacked how cheap some of the Dell refub stuff is at present.

Dell Optiplex 24 7000 all-in one, pretty well loaded.

Chassis: All-In-One, 23.8" FHD (1920 x 1080)
Processor: Intel Core i7 Quad (i7-6700) 3.40 GHz
Memory: 32 GB
Hard Drive: 1.00 TB
OS: 64-bit Windows 10 Pro

https://www.dellrefurbished.co.uk/desktop-computer...

35% discount code, so that spec is just £330 incl VAT.
