Admit to being st at tech (we've techies at work for that) so am struggling with what I'm sure is simple & basic as I've never needed to do this before (having previously only had basic mobile phones).

Currently have a Samsung android but need more storage (work logins & stuff has pretty much killed my existing phone) & bought a newer version with more storage but how to transfer Whatsapp, FB messenger messages & texts to my new phone? I've worked out how to backup my Whatsapp messages to my backup Google account but when I log into said account on a PC there's nothing there. I'm on contract & just moving the SIM between phones so can't bluetooth across. I'm also going from micro to nano sim taking off the excess of the card to fit into my new phone so can't really try & then go back to my old phone if the messages don't transfer.

Simple & basic I'm sure but if you don't know, you don't know.

Asuming that you are staying on Android (and keeping the same number), when you install and activate whatsapp on the new phone, your messages will restore from the backup. You will get prompted when you first run the app, make sure you say yes. I beleive this is a one time question so only get one opertunity to do this. As far as I am aware you will not see the whatsapp backups in your google account, they do not count against your storage quota.
FB messenger will be in your facebook account, you can check using FB online and will see your message histroy there.

Text mesages, on some Samsung phones, there is an option to backup the phone to a samsung account. If you do this you can restore the text messages if you wish. (based on Note8, 9 and 10)

This. Did it yesterday. Get the app on both phones, easy. Connection went several times but when you restart it picks up where it left off.
