Is there any consensus these days ? IE always seem to be poorly thought of, FF proved bloated, Chrome raises privacy concerns. What about Opera or Brave - any good ? Any others ?

Why does chrome raise any more privacy concerns than anything else on the net?
Just use the browser you get on with. They all do the job, people just have their favourites. There is no best.
Whatever you use add uBlock Origin to stop all the ads and crap.

Since Brave started putting its own ads in whilst blocking everyone elses I started using Firefox. Seems pretty ok, syncing between desktop and mobile is good and most extensions work for the mobile version too.

I use Opera on Win Desktop & Android mobile.

The beauty of Opera on mobile is you can set it to justify text with a tap & swipe, so if you have ageing eyes like mine, you can quickly create sections of text that are legible. Opera Desktop appears to be as customisable as the others.

Firefox - lots of configuration available and worth it just for the Facebook container alone

https://www.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/facebookcont...

Usual stuff like syncing across devices, free built in password manager, password generator, ghostery plugin etc etc

They redirected your request to include their affiliate link to make money out of you. It was a scummy thing to do and I would not trust them with anything.

I've used Opera for years and see no reason to change.
Chrome became bloated and slow, don't know if it's improved

Are you aware that some Chinese consortium bought Opera?

I've been using Opera since V5, now on V68.

I still have Edge, Chrome and Firefox installed from way back and try them every so often. I always return to Opera.

Another vote for Brave. Their advertising model is unusual but well explained - you get rewarded for viewing ads and can then put that back into content creators:

I'm a web developer so jump between browsers for a living. Safari is the most likely to give you issues because it's the slowest to implement new features and quite buggy. We have to fix more errors in Safari than other browsers these days (particularly the desktop version).

Firefox is great and it's my main browser for development work It's also the best hope for us all at keeping the Google's power in check.

Chrome is OK but it's dominance is very bad for the internet so I would encourage everyone to try something else.

The only thing stopping me moving to Brave is the fact their bookmark sync is pants. Until they sort that out it's still Chrome (with pihole).
