Recently moved to an area with no mobile reception and have just changed my phone. Trying to hook it up to WhatsApp but the verification code they keep sending me by SMS isn't getting to me. Old phone meanwhile is merrily still receiving WhatsApp messages on its now-defunct SIM card. So I don't have to carry two phones around with me is there any way of getting this pesky code through? The 'Call Me' option obvs doesn't work, nor does trying to put my landline number in after binning the app and getting a new one, and apparently you can't get the code via email. mad

Would the simplest option not be to walk or drive to somewhere with reception and try again?

Yes yes thanks was expecting all that, biggrin, thing is though I have been out and about in places where there is reception and there are no SMS messages on the phone. I've done it a few times now. Take pity on a daft old git!

I admit this might seem like classic first world stuff but with an ailing mum and a pregnant daughter in lockdown WhatsApp has proved to be the most reliable form of comms available to me and I know it should work on the new IPhone, am just trying to get past their code stuff and thought someone here might know the answer. smile

Thanks for this, no it's a new phone and the same number, so this is the para from that page that refers to me:
'Different types of phone
If you're moving from one type of phone to another, such as from an iPhone to an Android, and preserving your number, you'll keep your account info. This information is tied to the phone number. Simply download WhatsApp on the new phone and verify your number.'
It's the 'simply verify your number' bit that's stumping me. They say they are sending me a six-figure code by SMS but it's not arrived after several days and quite a few attempts to get it.

I suspect you need to put your new SIM in your old phone & follow the process for changing the WA account number to the new number. However, it does rely on you having verified your old number on your old phone. If you haven't done that then it may not be possible to migrate your account across.

I didn't verify it on my old phone. Seem to have fallen into a hole here, wonder if WhatsApp are aware of this?

Does your WhatsApp number not match your sim number then?

No, because I switched suppliers at the same time as I switched phones. This is starting to sound a bit like a test question for prospective WhatsApp employees!

Maybe he can't get a signal where he is, so perhaps he should go somewhere where he can get a signal and check for memos.

Then yes, you'll have to change your number on your old phone with the new sim in it, then put the new sim in the new phone & re-verify the app on that one.

Let me try and digest that. When you say change the number on my old phone, what do you mean? Sorry.

Tried that, no sign of any SMSs.

Wouldn't it be simpler and quicker to just create a new WA account?
