Slow laptop help
Discussion
A friend bought an Acer Aspire 3 laptop a few months ago which has terrible performance.
CPU: AMD A9-94020e
1.8GHz base clock with a 2.5GHz boost, two cores.
The rest of the specs are pretty crap also, but I'm fairly sure it is the CPU which is the problem.
It is slow to do pretty much anything and the CPU is pegged at 100% when streaming youtube video at anything over 480p on Firefox/Chrome/Edge. Strangely, on the old install of internet explorer it plays full HD video fine.
When putting load on the CPU it drops to around 1GHz. I doubt it is thermal throttling as it happens instantly. This isn't something I have seen before and is all a bit strange.
It's a budget machine, but even my cheapo 7 year old laptop runs a hell of a lot better than this one and has lower specs.
I'm not sure what I should do next to sort this. Advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks
