replacing virgin suberhub 3.0
Discussion
Firstly you can't replace it completely, as it's also the modem that talks to Virgin's network. You can of course run it in modem mode and plug your own router into it.
But as above, it's actually a pretty decent router in it's own right so really there's no need to replace it unless you have a specific requirement it can't fulfil. Just turn off the wifi and plug a mesh system in. I also have google wifi but any of the usual names - Ubiqiti, Orbi - will work just fine and will be a huge improvement.

been using a tenda mesh system via home plugs and its for want of a better way of describing it as pants.
no qualms about spending a decent amount to get a good wifi signal throughout the house so any recommendations would be appreciated.
i was thinking about something like a rtac88u and a couple of access points
traditional 4 bed semi brick built and i dont mind cabling to the access points and a budget of sub £4/500 would be nice for a new router and a pair of decent access points would be about as far as i'd like to go.

Three floor sandstone 1800s house here, Super Hub in Modem mode in level one, hard wired to Linksys 1900ACS on level two, plug in wifi extender in one room on level two and one on level three and whole house gets pretty decent coverage, particularly when you consider the thickness of our internal walls. Gets heavily used too with music streaming, Netflix, Prime and on line gaming etc and never really have any issues.
Might be worth a read of my thread from a few weeks ago. Similar problem and loads of great input.

I ended up turning the wifi on the VM router off and have got two ubiquiti AP Lites. I also hard wired everything I could at the same time. Sledge hammer to crack a nut and all that but it works perfectly now where as I used to be fighting daily issues.

I have the Superhub 3 in modem mode and use an Orbi system for will WIFI throughout a 50’s solid brick house over 3 floors.
Best I could get before was 65/9 wired an 30-50/8 wireless using a new hw Virgin kit. I now get 110/10 everywhere wired or wireless. No more circles of doom steaming Netflix in the TV either.
