My ancient NAS drive a 2TB WD MyBookLive has given up the ghost, failing to reboot.

Having dismantled it and in process of recovering files question is what to replace it with?

Not another WD, hateful thing, are Synology products still the option to go for? Any recommendations?

The WD drive was a single drive 2TB so that or larger capacity would be the aim. Don't want or need something with a big case as it sits in the TV cabinet cabled into the router. Only for home use so though a 2 bay enclosure could be made to fit it would be a bit tight at a guess without measuring.

Also what's best way, buy enclosure and drive(s) separately, or a pre installed setup? Have only perused flaming Amazonia so far, going to do more research, but all views and suggestions welcome, including alternative suppliers. Budget immaterial, it costs what it costs.

QNAP or Synology are the 2 established NAS box suppliers. I have QNAP and it has been a good experience. Others prefer Synology.

I prefer the idea of buying the disks from 2 separate suppliers so hopefully you don't get them from the same batch.

Thanks for that, been looking at QNAP on overclocker. Do like they have an extra USB socket on the front.
