My parents ( who live a long way away ) - have a QVIS ORPH-TVI CCTV system.

It has died - So - time for a replacement.

The wiring for this is behind walls etc.
It the wiring reusable?

Are the existing cameras reusable ( IIRC they are HD )

Apologies for the poor quality of pics - Octogenarians and iphones.

Thank you in advance.

Looks like the installers have used CAT5 and baluns, so you can ether stick with analogue or upgrade to an IP PoE based system. I'd do the later if it was me, it will mean new cameras though and all the ends will need terminating with RJ45.

You could just replace the DVR headend, another Qvis or a Hikvision or similar.

What is wrong with the current DVR? Likely just a hard drive failure, easy to swap. Or maybe the PSU for the cameras has failed? Again cheap and easy.

I'm 500 miles away.
It could be power supply went pop ( It did previously . Had it replaced.)
Hard drive failure
Anything else.

It's a good few years old. So I'm tempted to replace the whole lot.

If the wiring can be reused - it reduces cost.

Likely faults will be

DVR hard drive. You may still see some graphics on the screen

DVR power supply (are any lights on the front?)

Camera power supply. (usually a green LED on PSU)

Do you have remote log in? If you do get a new set-up that will be a good option to integrate, will allow you to keep an eye on things if you/they want. Looks like they have 7 cams, so an eighth could be installed inside the home, good for piece of mind.

I have a couple of cams at my mums, one in the lounge and one in the hall, lets me check in a couple of time a day. She's well aware and likes the idea.

Thank you all for the help.

After some calls with the parents - they are struggling to unplug the thing so I can diagnose - so I am in the market for a new one.

I will start a new thread for recommendations on installers in the area.
