Currently using a HP Spectre 13, and its been OK. Poor battery performance has been its Achilles heel. Lucky to get 2 hours!

So reckon I’m going to get a decent upgrade, budget circa £1-2k.

Spec wise, roughly looking at i7, 512gb SSD, 8gb ram and touch screen essential.

I know the usual contenders are Dell XPS13, and Lenovo X1. Not a big fan of Dell, but I know the XPS range gets very good reviews.

Anyone got anyy other recommendations, or experiences of any ultrabooks I should be considering?

Surface laptop? I have one of the lower spec ones for work and it is really nice.

I’ll have a look, thanks. Not really seen them since the original one.

I was going to suggest a Samsung Galaxy Book Flex, but the USA review models (15", i7) don't seem to be available in the UK, it's just a 13" i5 so far. It's touchscreen though, with a pen included that slots into the body (it looks like it might be the Note 10 smartphone pen). Maybe the i7 15" hasn't launched here yet.

Other than that, some form of MS Surface.

I'd say that if you are looking at using a touchscreen then I'd get a proper convertible 2 in 1 rather than a laptop with a touchscreen. I've never used the touchscreen on my Surface laptop apart from the first day as it is just less comfortable to use than a mouse IMO.
