Has anyone achieved this?

Its "off" but continually prompts me to "switch it on" which is kind of BS by definition isn't it.

Short of throwing it at a brick wall and buying an Apple is there anything to make it stop?

I use two devices daily. Google Assistant is active on one as I use it regularly throughout the day. This is a Pixel 2XL.

The second device is a Nexus 6P. I turned the Assistant off on this device to prevent both devices responding to spoken commands. I've never had an issue with it this way, and never been interrupted or prompted to enable it again.

Ironically both those devices are Google hardware devices!

What is it you are trying to achieve? Is it just to deactivate the voice commands and voice interactions, or to deactivate Google altogether?

It keeps fading the screen when you go to do something with a dialog box asking you to activate Google assistant, which you have to dismiss. Its somehow weirdly antagonising, like the Amazon attempt to hoodwink you into purchasing prime.

Minor but its a little audacious and quite annoying when its at least a couple of times a day - googlerolleyes it, lots of people are pretty hacked off.

Oh I don't doubt it! I'd not come across anything related to it, so was just curious. I can't say I encounter any dialog boxes in day-to-day use of my android devices -- it'd be a very infrequent occurrence in fact. Just partially amused by the fact that it has never manifested itself on Google's own hardware in my case. The irony is not lost on me!

I see what you mean. I've never come across that. When I deactivated the assistant I did no more than toggle the Assistant off and turn off the microphone permissions for the Google app. That was it in totality - no errors, and no interrupting reminders such as that shown.
