Try as I might, nobody seems to know when this hits the UK & Acer wont dispatch from the USA.

Thanks, can I ask where that come from? That's one of several dates I've found as well as July and November.

Acer (who I quess might know) are silent on the matter.

Just realised you were trying to be a smart arse.

Had you thought a bit more, you might have considered that I had already searched high and low.

If you had, you would have saved making yourself look like a dick, and a bully.

PH is quite large, I'm sure the chances of an Acer employee in charge of laptop release dates reading this thread made it worthwhile asking the question.
hehe

Not as good as 14c though, which is what I would get if I was paying 699. Even then, comparing with the deals they get in the US, 699 is a joke.

Two reviews:

1. HP https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAvNYhMTyC0

2. Acer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzFe5bmTess

No HDMI port on the HP.

ETA Last review of Acer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GpYJbO7jHmY

Enjoy....

Don't really care about HDMI, but I do care about screen and from what I've seen is that Acer has the PWM brightness which leads to flickering - this is visible in the video reviews. I'd like the aspect ratio on the Acer but the build quality on the HP is apparently better.

Either way 699 is obscene regardless if it's HP or Acer.

I needed HDMI

The screen is excellent, no flickering at all. Indeed, one of the best I have seen.

These are textbook examples of PWM flicker. The dimmer the screen the more it flickers, so at full brightness you might not see it and you might not be sensitive to it. But from personal experience and judging from the examples Acer went real cheap on this one.

As I said, the screen is excellent, no flickering at all.

I see what you see in the vids, but I see no flickering whatsoever as I write this, but then maybe I have funny eyes.

To satisfy myself (quite why I don't know) I made two 10 secs vids with my iPhone. One dim and one bright.

Interestingly the vids confirmed what my eyes had seen, or rather hadn't see, to wit no flicker.
