Laptop - recommendation
Discussion
Hi
My sons laptop has died so it’s time for a new one
He plays fortnite but that’s about it for games - his old Dell seemed to play that ok
He will be using it for school work - starts secondary school in September
Any recommendations up to around £1000. I have no idea on laptops having used only tablets for the last few years
Thanks in advance

If you're happy with Dell's something like this perhaps? Maybe overkill but a nice laptop.

Not used the outlet myself but as good as new apparently.

I’ve read about the Ryzen processor- anyone thoughts on a laptop with that?
I have a workhorse Lenovo with the Ryzen processor. Seems to work fine. new machine though and only using it for work and porn so it wouldnt be asking alot of the computer. i think for games it comes down to the graphics card. I’ve read about the Ryzen processor- anyone thoughts on a laptop with that?

Bought the kids Lenovo laptops at xmas with Ryzen 3 processors, think they were about £500 at the time. Youngest uses it a lot for playing steam games etc and never mentioned any problem with it.I’ve read about the Ryzen processor- anyone thoughts on a laptop with that?
I think they might have been these https://www.argos.co.uk/product/2017541
Not sure about laptops, but desktop gamers seem to be recommending Ryzen over the Intel equivalent these days.
The Dell outlet linked above are pretty good, my wife and I both have refurbished Inspiron 2-in-1s bought from there, mine arrived with a cracked screen which they sorted out straight away.
Bear in mind their prices don't include VAT though.

Always good to do a search for discount codes for Dell outlet as well (got an extra 10% off my last purchase that way) .The Dell outlet linked above are pretty good, my wife and I both have refurbished Inspiron 2-in-1s bought from there, mine arrived with a cracked screen which they sorted out straight away.

I can't say a bad word about them - I have bought many machines (laptops and desktops) from Dell outlet since April 2009 and even the "scratch and dent" machines have been pristine. Still have four of them in the house (others have made their way to family members) and still work fine (been having a few issues with a new Mint 20 cinnamon install on the 2009 desktop but switching to Mate has solved that) .
The bluetooth/wireless card did fail (but before the warranty expired in my most recent machine) and they suggested either I send the machine in (at their expense) or they could just send a new part. I opted for the latter - ten minute job my end rather than the 48 hours without my main pc.
