The ugly matter of my youngest wanting a gaming PC has arisen again. However he has now saved up his own money, so I cannot very well say no.

Please can someone check this spec for me?

I can't see anything particularly wrong with those choices (I would prefer a better motherboard and higher capacity NVME drive and just a general extra spend here and there) - price seems fine (similar to what you would pay for the parts on PCPartpicker) .
Should hold it's own in all games at the moment.

Lose the mouse, get the razer deathadder v2, it's only a few quid more on Amazon and has miles better build quality, it's a similar size and style (palm grip) to the D, but the D is so cheap you can even change settings by squeezing the bottom, plus its full of holes!

I'm no expert but is 1080p enough on that size monitor? I went for a slower refresh speed but 1440p, but I don't tend to play first person shooter type games where maybe refresh rate is more important than resolution?

It's also a capable 4k setup but I prefer it to look good than play twitch style games

Can you explain this in simple terms please?

Basically it's a large screen for that resolution it will look a bit crap image wise might be better with a smaller screen or higher resolution 1440p or 4k but will come with a slower speed refresh rate unless he spends a lot more if he is into playing the export games it may benefit him having the higher rate

Yeah as above. I'm on a 27" monitor running at 2560x1440 resolution at 60hz, the one you linked is a bigger screen running at a lower resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels), but at a higher frequency (165Hz).
For the kind of things I use my pc for I'm happy to take the reduced speed to get the higher resolution. For what he wants to use it for I don't know if resolution or frequency are more important to him.
Higher resolution and high frequency cost way more.

Thanks chaps. I am passing all this on. On a couple of things he has said "yes I know that but I've done it for reasons X,Y and Z"

But any more thoughts appreciated.

If you tell us his reasons we can say if he is wrong or not wink
