Go to Google and see what they suggest.

That's a terrible reply.

50% of what is written about SEO on the internet is 100% wrong.

depends what you are wanting from 'SEO' !!!
you may also be better off posting in the business section...

SEO is a slightly weird term now - the concept of optimising a website for search engines is a) very basic (make it responsive / throw in SSL / add in the correct meta tags / use the correct headings types / make it fast / minimise graphic load time / minimize files that you can such as js and css / etc. etc.) and b) a bit of a misnomer as the vast majority of the search engine's algorithm is not going to be affected by your putting GERBIL SELLER IN BIRMINGHAM in <h1> tags all over the site wink

It is probably more accurate now to look at the technical steps taken in terms of website structure and content - and then the marketing steps taken outside that... and it is those marketing steps which will most drive success online long term - but hard work, not cheap, and takes time...

it is work we do with clients if you want to chat...

It's a question that's impossible to answer in depth.

As in 'Go to Google and see what they suggest', they say: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/74511...[.

That's what Google says. Of course, it might be bull. They want websites and such to follow certain conventions and not try to 'trick' their bots, so it could be nothing but wishful thinking. But if Google say it, I reckon it's a good start. The OP obviously doesn't want in-depth answers as it's all a bit involved. Start at the beginning.

I worked with someone as a content manager. Her problem was that those she was contracted to knew better. They'd read somewhere that the best way was to do keyword sprinkling, or buying in links. Everyone knew better. And who is to say otherwise? Apart from us when websites dropped down to page 3 or got hit by a Google badlist.

I write SEO copy. Pre-Covid I used to do the occasional bit for various companies. They all employ their own content managers, and every company that is specific as to what it wants is different from everyone else. Which one is right? I've no idea, and I doubt anyone does. These are the pros, earning their money in a competitive industry, but they can't all be right. My belief is to follow Google, as I said in my terrible reply.

A more terrible reply is that, beyond the basics that Google publish, there is much disagreement. No one knows. All you need is hard work.
