My daughter’s iPhone 8 has stopped being able to make and receive calls since she updated to iOS 13.6 the other week.

She can’t make normal calls, or from within Snapchat, Whatsapp, FB Messenger etc either - all very odd.

If she selects a name from her contacts within the phone app and tries to call, it seems to freeze everything until she closes the app down. If she tries to use the number pad to dial a number, nothing happens.

Have tried with wifi on and off, tried resetting network settings and have been through as many phone settings as I can think of (Call Forwarding, Do Not Disturb etc) to no avail.

Everything else seems fine - she can use Safari, text and all her Social Media apps without any issues (calling excluded obviously)

All seems very odd - any ideas anyone?

She drives about a fair bit and if she were to

Have you taken the sim out, spat on it/wiped it/dusted it & replaced?

Possibly try a hardware reset using Itunes?

Have you tried deleting and resetting the device from scratch - worth a try as well.

Taken it out, yes. Gobbed on it, no laugh

What happens when you try to call the phone? I’m assuming nothing at her end, but what does the caller get?

Try doing a restore and starting afresh.

Mine did something similar after an update but a hard restart cured it - hold Home and Off buttons until Apple logo appears and release. Mine took ages to reboot but worked seamlessly afterwards!

Tried that but made no difference.

It rings out and goes to voicemail.

I think a Reset All Settings might be the next option to try.

I’d try her SIM in a different phone and a different SIM in her phone to make sure the problem is with the phone and not the SIM.

Ensuring that either phone isn't "locked" to a different network.

Reset All Settings didn’t work, nor did the SIM swap - looks like it’s a Genius Bar appointment for her frown

You're going to kick yourself if you find it's in "airplane mode" hehe

have you tried the ‘erase all content and settings’? basically wipes it back to factory settings and needs setting up again (make sure you know the apple ID password and stuff, otherwise you’re gonna brick the phone!)
