Western Digital Blue 4TB HDD

Fitted and never worked

Buzzes on and off, doesn't spin up

e-shop purchase, arrived well packed

There's a slight bend at one corner of the top thin plate cover right by a fixing screw

Can't make my mind up what to do

Should it be sent back to the supplier who could comment that it's been damaged during fitting?

Should Western Digital be contacted?

What would others here do?

TIA

A 4TB SSD would be £400 or thereabouts. I’m sure he’d know. It would also be a slimline drive, 2.5mm rather than the chunky Mechanical size.

You contract is with the retailer OP, I’d be going to them.

Contact seller for replacement. If no luck say you will put in a paypal claim (obviously you used paypal).

Always send it back, PS. If it's repairable, it will mean you have a repaired one. You are within your rights.

I'd speak to WD - I think the policy of DOA is to supply a new one but I've not dealt with a mechanical drive fail for a few years now...

If they supply a refurb I'd give it a miss and return it to the supplier.

Your contract is with the supplier - just send it back. Trying to deal with WD direct will complicate things and take longer.

Cost 11 Euro to send it back, took that on the chin

Sure enough a Recertified drive has been delivered

Fitted the drive, ran SMART software and it showed up as new

Thank you to all

Derek you were spot on about a repaired one although I don't know if the original is repairable

Couldn't be bothered asking why another new hard drive wasn't sent, even if getting somewhere with the supplier it would have cost another 11 Euro

Cheers

You had to pay 11EUR to send a DOA drive back to the supplier? Which Eastern European country are you in?

Greece

The main problem I had was the slight bend at one corner of the top cover, the supplier could have made life very difficult for me by suggesting the drive was damaged during installation

Didn't want to rock the boat too much, think I will ask for a discount off a future purchase

If PayPall was used...........
