I have a folder, which has a further 12 folders within it, each of which has up to half a dozen documents.

I want to email all of it to a colleague, but, when I compress the initial folder, all of the documents mix together rather than staying within their folder groupings... is there a way to keep them as they are and still email them over?

I am utterly rubbish at this stuff, apologies.

Which OS?

If on Windows try 7Zip its free and supports a variety of compression formats - including ".zip"

On MacOS/Linux I use the terminal and "tar" to create a tar.gz file (I have never used "compress" from within finder)

Windows 10.

When I zip it, I'm left with one file that has all the documents mixed together in it... what I really want is them to remain in their separate folders so that the recipient of the email can see what's what.

When the recipient extracts the files, does the folder structure magically re-appear? Ignoring the folder inside the ZIP seems sensible, as its not the primary purpose of the Zip program.

Are you just right clicking on the the folder and pressing 'Send to --> Compressed (zipped) folder'? I know there were options in WinZip about maintaining folder structure but that's going back several years, the Windows 10 zip I thought always preserved the structure (and does when I just tried it).

Ah, I have just discovered all the folders return when extracted... I was looking at them whilst they were still zipped and one big jumbled mess! paperbag
