Recently had Sky installed in our new (to us) house. We have very weak internet here, no mobile reception, no fibre or masts, no 4, 3 or even 2G and speeds of only 1Mb up and down. Had to have the Sky dish put in to receive any TV programmes.
All good up to tonight when the Sky box has suddenly lost internet connection. We can still watch TV and see our recordings but none of the other stuff (Cinema etc) is available. Went to Settings and tried to reset the network but the flashing orange WPS button that I was asked to press and hold didn't do anything. Switched the Q box off at the mains and things seemed ok again but only for a minute or so, then it went back to saying there was no internet connection.
Obviously I'll be on to Sky to ask what's going on but just wondered if anyone here might have experienced something similar. Thanks for any thoughts.

Sadly no, main router is upstairs in office. The Sky Q box doesn't have its own router then? Only asking this because it comes up as a separate wi-fi network on my phone's Setings. Sorry I'm a bit ignorant of this stuff.

Sky Q is a feckin PITA. It cant highlght/remind you of an upcoming programme only record it. And you'd better switch it off every night or it might/may not go into standby then you have to unplug/restart it again. Step backwards.....oh and the remote wont work after a while....

Yes, we've noticed that inability to put a reminder on a programme, we thought it was us being rubbish! Our old Humax was better in many ways.

I was having issues with my box doing this and not turning on in the morning, disabled the "Eco" mode and been all good since.

On another note i had nothing but problems with both my main and sky q mini boxes internet connection when they were connected using WiFi, i bought a cheap switch plugged into the back of the router and wired both boxes to it and haven't had an issue since, i appreciate this wont help in the op's case but might be worthwhile to somebody having issues.

Mine was much the same, hardwired it to the router with a flat cable under the carpet, don't use standby mode and it's been fine. Incidentally, Sky have just offered me a free voice remote through the Sky VIP app, don't know if everyone gets this, but I'll be having that as I still have the horrendous touch sensitive thing.

I had an issue with my Q mini initially which according to sky engineer is partly due to BT routers. Basically my mini kept trying to connect directly to the router which is not how they're supposed to work (mini supposed to connect to main). Solution was to install the sky WiFi extender which creates a separate network and is a link between mini, main box and router. This wasn't a signal strength issue, just a weirdness with BT routers, so sky say. Something to do with wifi channels and frequencies apparently. Been perfect since this was done.

If your problem doesn't involve a mini box or BT WiFi then the above will be of no use!

So does anybody know if the Sky Q box has its own router? As noted earlier, it comes up as a separate 'SKY04C0B' network on my mobile. Only asking so I know I shouldn't be swearing at the house's Plusnet router.
I wish these things were a bit easier for an old git like me to understand.

Is it not that its connected to you mini boxes on the sky network it creates?

I have hard wired my main and mini box together through a switch and turned off WiFi on both boxes (no more sky network) but i am assuming if you did this then the mini's wouldn't work as they wouldn't be connected to the main box via the Sky WiFi network.

There's a thread on Sky Community with nearly a thousand posts from people with this exact problem. I plan to exit Sky as they're not providing the service I'm paying for. Are there any alternatives to Sky that will provide the usual sort of freeview channels via the internet (as we don't have any normal telly reception)?

Try 'Freesat' . Uses the Same dish, although you may need a different LNB on the end. Humax do good Freesat boxes.

Yes, we had a Humax at our old house which had normal internet but the box doesn't work here as it's not the sat one. If I get out of Sky to go down this route will they take their dish back?
ETA: forget that idea, here's what Humax says about connection to the Sky dish:
'If you were a standard Sky+ customer, you will be able to use your existing Sky dish. If you are a Sky Q customer unfortunately your dish is not compatible.'
We are a Sky Q customer redface

What about cabled through a powerline adaptor? I reckon cabled is the way to go.

Is that the same as a network extender? I've got one of those downstairs (router is upstairs) which seems to work OK. In other news I've managed to reconnect the Sky Q (for now at least) by pressing the WPS button on the router.

Similar, but you can plug a cat 5 cable in rather than using wifi.

So I plug that into the Sky Q box and into the router?
