Chromecast and VPN
Discussion
I have a VPN (SurfShark), and I use it to watch UK telly when abroad (France). It seems that I can't also use my Chromecast, because its not on the VPN.
Is there a method whereby I can use my Android tablet to stream UK television, using the VPN (that bit I do already), but also work as a virtual router for rhe Chromecast to connect to? Or do I need two devices; one to stream, and one to act as vurtual router?
I do have more Android devices available as well as a Windows laptop.

You could plug the Windows laptop into your router via a LAN cable, and configure the laptop to act as a WiFi router, giving you another WiFi network to connect to. When you use the VPN on the laptop you'll switch the location for anything on your new WiFi network to whatever VPN server you've chosen on the laptop.
Only suggesting that method as it uses what you have and doesn't involve any extra cost (except maybe a LAN cable if you don't have one).

Come to think about it, I could just connect the laptop to the tv with an HDMI, and throw the Chromecast in the bin. Only suggesting that method as it uses what you have and doesn't involve any extra cost (except maybe a LAN cable if you don't have one).

Cant you cast the tablet onto the tv using screen mirroring? It's an option in Google home.
No. Chromecast just says 'ready to cast', and won't mirror. It works fine on non-location based stuff like YouTube.
I found an HDMI to mini-HDMI cable in my Box-O-Sh!te(TM), so I'll try the low-tech solution first, I think.
