You'll need to power them , battery ones are pita. You'll need ether PoE, power over ethernet (preferable), or local power source.
battery ones were s
t, but system q has come out with a decent battery/wireless system though, and a small usb solar panel at each camera gives enough juice that after 7 months my test rig still has 100% battery. will wait to see what winter brings

I use the Google Nest IQ cameras, they require power but are very good for the money. The subscription used to be the biggest draw back but they do now offer a much cheaper subscription model for more than 1 camera in the same household.

I use a Yi outdoor camera and Nest doorbell, the Nest is OK but sometimes lags a bit when connecting the phone when someone rings though it alerts on the google/nest hub indoors 99% of the time, had a Ring doorbell before but it was patchy and didn't have faith in it.
The Yi camera is a good product and has an sd card hidden away under a waterproof hatch which isn't publicised on the marketing which now has a 128GB card in which records for over a week and works well with the app.

Yi is made by Xiaomi which is the worlds second largest electronics company so should hopefully be quite secure.

I'd still look for a camera or system with local storage backup as portable wifi jammers can be bought for £20 online which would defeat a cloud only wireless based camera.
Thanks, local storage is also not an option as the cameras will be placed high up and it will be a faff to view them if required.the system q one has a nvr that plugs into your router and tv, just the cameras are wireless/battery. the cameras are not wifi, its proprietary wireless, the receiver has a long usb lead that goes into the nvr.
The mini usb solar panels I got off amazon.

The local storage is still accessed remotely either by the phone or PC app, local storage covers you incase the criminals are using wireless countermeasures which is now common place in targeted car theft.untakenname said:

That's very interesting, as few months back someone walked up to the house, down the side gate into the back garden, and robbed our sons mountain bike, thing is we have a ring camera doorbell, which picked every movement from postmen, to next door neighbor, but not this, would explain how it never captured anything.Had a hard wired 3 camera cctv system installed now, see if they can jam that.

Even then you could still defeat those by cutting the telephone cable (if accessible).

Unfortunately for me, cloud backup/wifi is the only option, I can get power to the cameras but like I say would prefer to look at the solar powered option?
why solar powered - are you ok with CCTV not working half the time? some things are ok to work with Solar power, CCTV is not one of themGassing Station | Computers, Gadgets & Stuff | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
