Hi All, after some tech help...

Has anybody successfully transferred WhatsApp chats from iPhone to Android? My girlfriend has a new Android phone having previously had an iPhone. I've managed to transfer everything across except WhatsApp. Having done some Googling it seems officially its not possible but there seem to be some 'work arounds' that I can't for the life of me get to work. Anybody got any ideas?

Cheers

Quick answer is no. It's about the only thing that can't be transferred cross OS.

Have you tried this :

Open WhatsApp on the iPhone.

Go to Settings then Chats then Chat Backup

Press the Back Up Now button to start backing up your current WhatsApp Data.

Download and install WhatsApp on your Android phone, uninstall it if you already have it and download it fresh.

Sign in to your WhatsApp account.
You should get a pop up asking you whether to restore data from backup for the first time.

Press Restore if prompted to restore from WhatsApp iCloud and wait until it's done.

The messages should have transferred across.

Thanks, its a bit frustrating but I guess it is what it is. Managed to transfer everything else over so that's something I guess!

Thanks, I did try this but it seems WhatsApp on ios only backs up and restores using icloud and where as Android only uses Google drive so there's no option to restore from icloud on Android.

I wasn't able to do this either, when I changed over. However, I did find a way to export the chats from iOS as a text zip file. I haven't yet found a way to import them to Android, but at least I have them, should they sort it out.

That's where I am at currently - in some way even more frustrating as the data is on the phone just not in the app itself! As you say, at least its something and better than nothing

Probably why people should start using Signal instead of Whatsapp (owned by Facebook) think you can do physical backups on Signal so can transfer the files between OS no issues.
