Does anyone have any application\tools recommendations for controlling children’s devices connected to my home WiFi?

Really keen to be able to turn off access at a particular time

Thanks

Michael

How about asserting some parental authority?

Seriously, why do you need to stop access? Is your instruction not good enough? Are you unable/unwilling to discipline for breaches?

Genuinely interested, not having a dig. A lot of parents seem to prefer non confrontational parenting, and I don't understand why. Kids grow up never hearing the word no.

I want to be able to limit time online I.e a couple of hours a day. Or to ensure the PlayStation disconnects at 9pm etc. No issues saying ‘No’, but to be honest clock watching three children is not much fun

Yes, it’s built in to most routers, you can restrict specific devices and access times.

With my kids everything is open and just talking to them about stuff if they don’t understand is enough, they know what they shouldn’t search for.

They also know that if they spend too much time on them and don’t respond when called for a meal things won’t go well as I ask them to hand over their devices.

Works for us.

How hard is it to say the xbox goes off at 9pm? And breaches in the rules gets punished for all. That way it's self policing.

How do you imagine parents managed before the Internet?

I see this as the modern equivalent of reading by torch light. We weren't allowed to do that but still did it. Looking for a solution like this doesn't make me think poor parenting, it's more like another layer of control, and well done to the OP for looking for a tech solution to back up their rules. Better than having no rules at all.

Well, I managed without any WiFi limiting app, so I'd better wish you all the best and bow out. I'm only derailing the thread. wavey

Most routers have it built in, not sure on the PS but on Xbox you can set up Microsoft family and block their account between certain hours etc.

Qustodio is the market leader. It’s pretty awesome.

I can see what my daughter had been doing online, what videos shes watched on YouTube etc. You can limit time by app etc. Can get a free trial and free basic functionality for one device.

If you want all the bells and whistles and multiple devices you subscribe. It’s very impressive software.

Three strikes and the plug gets cut off. Stop overcomplicating things.
