Chatting to a bloke I met at a social and he was saying he supplies a fully loaded, unlocked Android box and it allows someone to basically stream every tv and film - he said it was $500 (I’m in Oz) plus a $250 per year subscription fee.

I was wondering why someone would pay for the subscription as it would surely be just a matter of jail breaking an Android box and then getting the right apps to stream - how is he getting it otherwise and what would the fee even do if paid to him - I.e where is his cost to make this happen?

I’m just a bit unsure why it’s even a thing someone just doesn’t do themselves if it’s that easy. Does it require hard to obtain software or something?

I get that but just keen to understand it as I’m pretty over most things but this has me a bit stumped how it actually works and how paying someone a subscriptions enables them to make it work.

You’d like to think that when the sources are switched off, as they regularly are, your ‘subscription’ is paying for them to update to new sources without you having to do anything.

There are several ways to do this for them.
The easiest way for them is to just have a huge library of everything illegal, so they can offer all content without paying any license.
They then offer it on a platform similar to Plex for example.

As said, the fees are for the hosting and providing and dodging the law.

It's unrestricted because they don't navigate all sorts of copyright laws.

Your "unlocked box" has unlimited access to whatever channels the provider is going to stream.
There is no searching for streams and no unreliable streams.
There will be a massive channel list each channel will have its own EPG, you simply select what you want to watch and it will appear instantly, there will probably be catch up as well.

What will you be paying for?
Ease of use, and having every TV provider available at the touch of a button.
There'll probably be a "complaint" facility, so if the channel you're watching goes down or starts breaking up they'll have you up and running again very quickly!

What are the "suppliers" costs?
Probably has to pay a lot of people to constantly supply reliable streams.
Probably has to pay out a lot of baksheesh to stay under the radar.
Costs of running servers 24/7.
Probably has to have another set up ready to go for when they get shutdown!

These crooks always operate at "socials" and pubs.
1. All android devices are "unlocked". Android allows you to install any apps by default. First lie.
2. The apps required to stream illegal torrents etc are FREEly available. 2nd lie.
3. He has just made up a figure to see how many idiots he can trick.
4. The box may not even work.
5. An Android based "TV box" can be bought all over ebay, bangood etc for 50-100. So just that means he is trying to rip you off.
6. Subscriptions if used are to get access to special nodes that provide faster access. But being illegal these change often and are not guaranteed.

These people are scammers trying it on. As you can see, believing what they tell you is half of the scam.
As an aside, everything above can be done on any android phone and cast to a TV.

A lot of probablys there.
More likely he'll just give you a 40 quid android box with kodi on with a few plugins and convince you you have a subscription. Especially if you paid you "subscription" direct to him. ITs on of the oldest tricks in the book and been going on forever. I thought this st had died out since people worked out how to do it on their own more powerful phones.
