Ok so i know the correct term is 'terminate RJ45 connectors' but i didn't want to sound smarter than I am wink Is there a less ballache way to connect up these things? I've wired up the house with Cat6A or the thicker cables that can carry those signals, and i've tried the connectors which have 2 pieces, but it took me ages to do just one.

I can straighten the wires ok, but it's getting them perfectly in line all the way to the end of the connector thats the problem. I got a suggestion off Youtube to put the wires in the correct order (b) and cut them at 45 degrees before trying to insert them in, which does help a bit.

Any tips / tricks for terminating RJ45 on thicker Cat cables would be appreciated.

These are the connectors i've tried.

In general you don't. If you have run solid core Cat6/6A then you should be making them off onto jack sockets which are mounted in a pattress box. Then you use a pre-made flexible patch cord to connect between equipment & the jack socket.

If the cables are in the wall get a punchdown tool and a wall plate for them, something like this:

They will mount onto your standard wallbox if you have those in place.

In terms of easy to terminate ethernet connectors, I like the ones where you can push the cables through the end and cut off the excess, I am terrible at terminating ethernet but these make it very easy:

Get the cables in the right order, push them in as far as they'll go, and then use this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/VCE-Crimping-Pass-Thru-Et...

I've done all my cabling with those and they've been very easy. Buy a cable tester too!

And to add. The wall plates are easy to cable here’s mine:

Then you can create neat cables with those pass through crimping ends. I am terrible at terminating Ethernet and I still manage to get something passable:

Thank you all!

I should have added that the end im trying to crimp is for CCTV (ubiquti POE) so can't really use a wallbox outside, but appreciate the responses.

I will need to terminate them unfortunately unless there is a better way on an outside wall

Yeah, just use the passthrough ends, they make the job so much easier, still fiddly, but so much easier, I didn't link the Cat6a ones but they exist too, the standard ones will be fine for you however. Grab a cable tester for £8, will save you a world of annoyance.

Can you mount a waterproof box next to each camera? If so put a jack socket on the end of the cable (much easier to do) & use a patchcord to the camera.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Coupler-Keystone-Shieldin...

To try & make that cable off as a flying lead used outside is just asking for trouble.

Just terminate one end when you're down, run the cable, plug it into the camera and cut to length on the other end when you're down on the ground/wherever it needs to go. I wouldn't put up wall boxes for external cameras.
