Virgin Fibre broadband has reached my area. Is it any good?
Am hoping it might be better than my existing TalkTalk connection...!

I was with them for years, download speed good but upload slower than most other providers for a similar download speed. Occasionally had some outages but they were generally quick to fix it. I think their ping times can be a bit slower than some providers, which might be an issue if you're a competitive online gamer but I never had an issue with.

Your speed will be better, upload and download. I suspect more expensive but even the slowest M100 package is going to be better speeds that any FTTC I'd imagine? I havent had VDSL since it was incepted though (only had ADSL before FTTP)

I've never had a service issue and I've been with them for 7 years now. On the occasion I've had to call them it's been a bit protracted, Their free hubs are not epically good, we used ours for a bit (but there does seem to be a very nerdy issue with the chipset with one of the hubs that doesnt give great rock stable connections for video conferencing but they always blamed our VPNs which is possible) so we use Goole Mesh as we have an old house with thick walls.

I get consistent sub 20ms pings to UK based servers. Occasionally it goes a bit wonk but that's exceptionally rare.

Had it since about 2006 and speeds have always been as advertised for me.

Same. Was the only way to get decent speeds being so far from an exchange - 200meg rock solid all the time here, never drops speed. Connections drops maybe once a year but always fixed within a few hours - support useless though as are their hubs. Google mesh here too

Virgin win the best broadband speeds most of the time.
Talktalk is a piece of string and a tin can compared to it.
But, as with all broadband, if you have a stty or lazy contractor install it you will have issues regardless.
Personally Ive had it over ten years and its brilliant, you get what you pay for to the megabit.

Used their service from 64k broadband days up to about 5 years ago.

Download speeds good, upload speeds bad - M100 is only 10Mbs up - not great these days with cloud storage.

Is reliable (but the so have all broadband suppliers been I have used), but on the few occasions it goes wrong then god help you with their overseas help desk.

What really annoyed me and finally caused me to tell them to 'go away' was the relentless increase in prices requiring the annual threat to leave to bring the prices back down to something sensible.

So fine if you can't get FTTC with a decent speed, but otherwise not worth it.

Some years ago we had Virgin Broadband. In the main was very happy with it. Had all the TV bundles and their set top box thingy at the time was well.

Then we moved house. Was more than happy to port my contract to the new house. Only problem was they had no service in the area I was moving to.

They still applied the early termination penalty meaning I had to pay up the remainder of the contract period, even though they could not provide the service in the new house and I had no intention of moving to another service provider had they been able to provide a connection.. Felt like I was being fined for choosing to move.

Wasn’t loads of of money, but because of that very poor experience and attitude they adopted, never had Virgin again. Wasn’t my fault they network wasn’t available to me.

Anyway, aside from that it was good when we had it.

If you want to change your DNS you can just do it at the client?

We’ve had it since 1999.

For the vast majority of the time it’s great. Since lockdown/WFH there have been 5 of us either connected to our work IT systems or University IT systems or streaming Disney / Netflix and it’s been fine.

However, on the rare occasion there is a problem, then dealing with their Indian call centre staff is akin to having teeth pulled. And then pushed back in again.

The speed with Virgin is worth the otherwise poor customer experience.

I pay for 100mbps and just did a speed test at 7.20pm on a Friday night and got 111mbps down.
Net gear Orbi mesh WiFi here.

I don't think they can do this any more.

Speeds are more than advertised for me. Think that may depend on how many others are subscribed in your area though.

I don't really have much choice though, I get 200mb for less than BT and the rest for 'upto' 50meg.

I can get 1gb from them for double the price but my days of using torrents is over so wouldn't see much use!

The only thing that did grate of on me was the better deals new customers got. I saw an offer of 200mb/landline/tv Inc sky movies and BT sport for £55pm.
Even though I was at the end of my contract they could only offer it me for £70pm. So I just ditched phone and TV instead and kept the broadband.

It is mentioned in the T&Cs even now, but not sure if it's enforceable.
