Just received a new 2TB Seagate HDD, bought from Amazon and shown as "Amazon Choice" on the listing.
I (wrongly) assumed it was coming from a UK supplier as nowhere that I can see on the listing does it say from HK.
Now it may be OK but having recently seen reports of fake goods from China/HK an problems returning stuff I'm somewhat annoyed at this.
Tried to contact Amazon for a grumble there doesn't seem to be an email address for Customer Sevices.

You mean it was sent from Hong Kong?
Did it say Sold and Dispatched by Amazon on the sale page?
Just return it, if its not what you expected. Its easy to do.
Then just buy a different one.
Do you have a link to the original page?

£53.90/59.99? That's from amazon themselves. HK is probably their main hub as these are produced by Seagate in China anyway.

Essentially, its highly likely to be real. Whether anyone in the supply chain has tampered with it or engineered a backdoor is a different story... wink

I’ve recently bought several tech bits on eBay from HK and China. Huge discount, and all have been perfectly good and new items. I’m guessing that some items “leak” from factories on Shenzhen and Guangdong... No complaints - quick delivery and no import duty assessed

Thanks for the confidence boost guys, it's a present for my Son, to back up everything regularly. He has learnt the hard way with shoddy memory sticks.
Didn't want to give him iffy stuff, needs to work and not break down after a few months.
Haven't opened up the package, will do that, set up some folders etc so he's no excuse.
thanks again
(and agree, about the free lunch.....)

Don't leave it to remembering to do manual backup, use the computer's built-in option at least (Time Machine for Mac or Windows Backup in W10).

I'd recommend something better for W10 myself, but it's better than manually backing up to folders on a HDD. You might even find some free software included with the HDD. There's even the option of online back-ups (or even something relatively simple like Onedrive).

You can then choose whether you want to do regular full backups (of the OS and all the files/settings/apps/etc.) or just specific files/folders.
