I have a two year old samsung smt560 tablet aka Samsung etab running Android 4.4.4.

There is an app I’d like to use on it (Ready2Order point is sale) but the app says it’s not compatible with the tablet. It look like it’s not version compatible with 4.4.4- only 6.0 or higher.

I tried to uograde the os but it tells me it has the latest update even though it’s 4.4. Any ideas on how I can force an upgrade to 6.0 before I start buying an iPad...?

Thank you for your help/suggestions.

Android 4 is nearly ten years old. My phone is nearly three years old and runs android 9... Did your tablet come with that new?

Unless Samsung push an upgrade you have to root the tablet. But you need to be aware of the tablet spec as it may be very slow.

You certainly don't have to buy an ipad, but possibly a new tablet. Plenty of very decent ones available for sub £100

Wikipedia says...

The US and Canadian model (SM-T560NU) received Android updates to Lollipop, Marshmallow, Nougat, Oreo, and Pie. Models for other countries remained on KitKat.[5][6]

Root and upgrade. Will get rid of all the Samsung bloatware too.

Your best case is to use a third party android version non sanctioned by Samsung

I have got a few years out of my kids tablets by using custom android builds for no longer supported devices.

Thank you all for your replies.

As it will be used as a POS in a shop I’m not sure playing around with rooting would be the best idea.

Shavermcspud’s link told me everything I needed to know- that upgrades after KitKat aren’t possible. Which is annoying because the tab works fine.

I’ll look at other Android solutions, but honestly said, every interaction I’ve had with Android (phones and tablets) has been a terrible experience - and I am not an Apple fan (absolutely hate them would be an accurate description...) unfortunately for me, they just work.

O/T: Which is a shame because i love Microsoft’s surface solutions and Even though I know they abandoned their Mobile Windows 0S donkeys years back, I’m still disappointed they are running the Duo on Android. But that’s another thread.

Thank you all.

Follow this guide to install Viper OS 5.1 which'll take you up to Android 7.1.2 -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=px3pMb5vCkk

Prior to doing this you'll need to install TWRP on your tablet (Team Win Recovery Project - this creates a recovery partition so that you can flash new software) how to here -

All links are in the descriptions - make sure you have all files to hand before beginning! You're never going to get great performance due to the low ram and poor processor - Samsung basically stopped supporting it right after release.
