Got a letter from Sky, and normally they go in the bin (just changed the preferences to save paper) but it offers "Ultrafast" Broadband, for £35 a month, though it says £40 when I actually log in for some reason.

I am on their normal package, which gives me 75 down and 18 up, its fine as it is but interested in this and how its done.

There is no FTTP down our road but this claims 145 down and 30 odd down, is it just a case of a new BB router that can handle faster speeds over copper ?

Cant imagine they will dig the pavement up for it or sling an Ethernet cable over the existing telephone wires.

Do you actually notice any benefit with faster speeds, I know some have gigabit but never really find myself waiting for much anyway.

I’d be surprised if they can actually offer it to your property. It sounds like you have FTTC with your speeds, anything higher would probably need FTTP.

Yeah, hence my confusion as to how they do it, FTTP would be much faster than 150 as well wouldnt it ?

This may be Gfast. I have this with TalkTalk.
Promised speeds of up to 130 down and 30 up.
It still uses FTTC and then copper to the house.
Openreach came and added a small ‘box’ between my router and the phone line. The router now connects to this new box.
Speeds went from about 45 down and 15 up to 100 to 110 down and 30 up.

What is the small box called? I wonder if you can add on separately.

We are 72 down and 18 up with Sky Superfast FTTC.

I have Sky ultrafast and so far it’s pretty solid. Sky say 159mb to the hub and I’m getting 90 to 100mb down over wi-fi

Also I got it for the same price as the superfast so it was a no brained.

It was described by the Openreach chap as the Gfast box hehe As well as fitting the box in the house he had to make some changes at the the exchange to enable it.

My mate has it down a copper wire, he's getting 100mbs+. Needed a new Sky router.
