hi my elderly parents want a wireless printer so they can print things from their ipad in an easy a fashion as possible due to their being technically inept.

i have a home printer for work, and i use the HP instant ink service, 50 pages/month for £1.99 and it rolls over the pages i don't use.

I doubt my parents will use more than 50 pages a month ever, so think £24/year for ink maintenance will be fine.

are there any other options out there which might be better than instant ink? Would a cheap b/w laser printer give better value?

Thanks for any input.

Look on Amazon etc and see which instant ink printers come with free months. I've got 5 free months on a cheap printer on the £1.99 plan. This means I can print 250 full colour A4 pictures for just the cost of the media. Is it going to be cost effective? I'm not sure, but £24 per year is about the cost of a set of cartridges anyway.

I also have an HP Envy 5530 printer / scanner with Instant Ink and it works really well for us - much cheaper than buying the ink cartridges directly.

AirPrint works perfectly to allow printing from iOS / iPadOS

They do a nicely designed one (Tango X) that is a printer only (no scanner) and that has a fabric cover that wraps around it when it I use so it is unobtrusive. Pricy, but looks good.
