Hi all,

Moving into my new pad tomorrow and got Sky Broadband being activated.

Popped into the house yesterday when I picked it the keys and checked it all out.

There is only the single phone socket heading into the property that we will connect the router too.

Question is do I need a microfilter for the router or should I be able to plug the router straight into that socket?

We won't have a phone installed as happy with our mobiles, if that makes a difference.

Cheers

You need a microfilter if you only have a single socket.
If you have a double socket (phone and data) then these contain a filter.

If you’re not plugging phones in too then I don’t believe you need them from an electrical POV as they stop interference but there won’t be anything to interfere.

You might from a socket POV though as dsl modems usually come with rj11 cables rather than bt/phone ones.

As a response to this, sky instructions said plug it straight in, and then phone would be connected through the box if we connect one in the future.

All seems to be working and no drops. Not sure what would happen if someone dials the number, but doubt we'd notice it anyway.

Phone line is is probably VoIP, not old style analogue. Same with later Virgin hubs, phone plugs in the hub and is VoIP'd down the BB.

This.

Iv'e just moved into a new house (taking my Sky Broadband with me.) which has a double socket.

My old house had a single socket, which I used the Microfilter... so I plugged into the new socket the same way as I did previously (not knowing it didn't need the microfilter). When activated it wasn't working, and it was only after doing a bit of research I found I just needed to plug my router into the data socket (without microfilter) instead of the phone line with microfilter.
