Gaming laptop for 13yr old?
Discussion
With more home schooling I imagine coming, my daughter wants a laptop for Xmas for her school work, general web browsing and some gaming.
I'm completely out of the loop with laptops so not sure what's a decent spec on laptops as I'm only used to desktops.
She has an iphone/ipad so a Macbook would keep her in the Apple eco system but they seem to be much higher priced for quite poverty spec on paper at least (small hard drives, lower RAM etc).
If going down the PC route, I understand you get more for you money and she could use my Steam account to play the PC games I have already plus theres more choice than Mac.
What is a decent laptop spec for playing games at a semi decent rate?
For reference, she uses my work PCs on occasions that i use for video editing which are powerful machines and have just upgraded from a 2080Ti GPU to a 3090 card so shes used to very good graphics so a laptop will be quite a downgrade as to what shes used to.
For a budget of around £1200, what is a good spec to for in terms of processor (AMD or Intel) and what GPU?
BTW, I want to buy brand new as can claim the VAT back

She's 13, so social media will more likely be the driver than computer games. I would go Mac for that (and the reduced support effort required from you).
More interestingly, how are you able to claim VAT back on a personal item for a family member?
If she wants a laptop, you should probably get a laptop.
Both Windows and Apple will let her surf the web/social media. PCs have more games. What software does she need for school ? That might limit your choices.
A new i5 with onboard Iris Plus graphics, 8GB, and an SSD would work.
Your budget is plenty. Try the Outlet stores, e.g. a Dell XPS as a "starter for 10"

At 13 she can be an employee...More interestingly, how are you able to claim VAT back on a personal item for a family member?
As for the laptop then take a look at PC Specialist you get far more bang for your buck than the likes of ASUS, HP, Razer etc.
