Most of the houses in our road are showing FTTP as available but our house is not (postcode is TN13 1PU). Our house is on a "battle-axe" block - effectively behind a house that fronts onto the street, so is accessed up a driveway which leads off the main road, not from the road directly.

When I check the various broadband availability checkers it shows just FTTC not FTTP. But it is so close! Does anyone have any ideas as to how I get someone to bring the fibre up the drive to me? It is about 100m....

thanks in advance

Have you looked to see if Trooli are servicing the area? If you're willing to pay, they will get a contractor to wire it in.

My place didn't have a conduit from the pavement (service box) to the front of the house, the BT cable was just buried.

So for them to install FTTP a conduit was required.
£200 later i have 1Gb fibre, their garden work was very neat too.
Highly recommended if you can get them.

Openreach pulled fibre over 200m through an old conduit to reach my house. They only did it because the guy on the phone said he would mark our house in the system as being able to get fttp even though it wasn't.

It meant I could place an order then openreach had to install it biggrin

Maybe have a word with BT and stress that a house over the road can get it why can't I? That's all I did.

Thanks both very much. Sadly Trooli arent here and I suspect given the street has been FTTP'd by openreach I guess they never will be. I might try and call BT and see what happens and then try someone like andrews and arnold too. I just need someone who can look at a map and see it isnt a challenging installation.....

Try anything.

The first openreach engineer that can just said ...... ok where is the fibre? I'm here to connect it up

I told him I had no idea.

He messed about a bit and went away. Another engineer came and found it 200m away. biggrin

It comes down to the conduit. If there's conduit, it's an easy job to blow the fibre down the conduit, to the building.

IIRC - Recent building regs mean that new houses require the laying of conduit as part of the build. I don't know where the cut-off point is but I have a nagging feeling it was circa 15yrs ago. However, I don't know enough about the regs to know if it would apply to a one-off build or if it would only apply to a new estate.

If you happen to spot someone from Openreach in your street, stop and have a chat. They'll know as they're dealing with the properties in your area daily.
