All,

I am a Windows user mainly, however, I am building an app in Flutter and trying to test it on an iOS simulator on a Macbook Pro. When I try and run the app, the compiler (Android studio) stops with an error:

CocoaPods not installed.

Easy I thought - sudo gem install cocoapods
This however fails to install:
Helpfully: "Could not create Makefile due to some reason, probably lack of necessary
libraries and/or headers. "

Then: "You have to install development tools first."

It suggests reading the log file, that I am unable to locate...

I have tried to install the development tools:
xcode-select --install

"xcode-select: error: command line tools are already installed, use "Software Update" to install updates"

Brilliant - check software update...

softwareupdate --list

...

'No new software available'

Honestly - wtf is going on? I have no idea why it's so fking awkward on a Mac to simply simulate an iOS device

Does anyone have any idea wtf is going on?

Mac 10.15.7
Xcode 12.2

Maybe the Dev Tools it's referring to are not the Apple Dev Tools (xcode) but CocoaPods SDK?

Can't help further as I stopped developing once I moved from AS400 (Cobol).

I develop for iOS on Mac with Swift - but don't use code generators after wasting time with Xamarin, so not actually familiar with Flutter

Have you gone through all the steps on this page? It looks as though the
flutter doctor
command is supposed to tell you whether it's properly installed

Try installing it via Brew:

https://formulae.brew.sh/formula/cocoapods
Thanks - tried that but failed too...

Flutter doctor suggested that everything was ok....

I was thinking of trying Xamarin but thankfully decided against it!

So far, flutter looks really good for speed alone - and I don't really want to build two separate native apps given my app is largely based on firebase, it's more of an information sharing app than anything else.
