Tablet for kids
Discussion
Looking for a tablet for our kids for Christmas - eldest is 6 (and a lot of his schoolwork is delivered via Android or iOS apps), youngest is 4. No real leaning between Android or iPad other than price, i.e. if iOS is much more suitable for kids than any Android product then we'd go with iPad. Mainly I want to be sure that there are sound parental control options, no way for them to "accidentally" buy lots of stuff, keep them away from the darker corners of the internet, like this place etc.
I'm aware that Amazon do kids versions of their Fire tablets, suppose I'm a bit wary that these will just be vehicles for them to advertise lots of expensive stuff that we'll end up getting pestered to buy for them etc., maybe I'm wrong there though? Happy to hear any suggestions.

My daughter has an iPad and is 6, she got this as a hand-me down from me just after she turned 5. She had an iPad mini 2 before this. The parental controls on it are excellent (its setup as her own child iCloud ID that will grow with her)

Fire HD kids are brilliant. You can set time limits on certain types of uses, you can set apps that only work after a certain amount of education time has been done, all free apps, no ads, can set age range suitability etc. You can also import stuff from the adult owner profile that isn't available in the kids profile. Importantly, they can't accidentally buy stuff! My 4 year old loves it.
