Dont know about that.

But I just had an old iPhone5 unlocked by Vodafone, used the form on their website to provide the IMIE (?) number and 24 hours later had a helpful email with the codes and instructions of what to do.

Are you sure it’s locked to Giff Gaff? To my knowledge Giff Gaff don’t have the facility to lock phones nor unlock them being an MVNO using O2. Did you bring the phone into Giff Gaff from O2? If that’s the case you give the IMEI to O2 who will want a fee. If you’re previously a customer of theirs they should unlock it without a fee but you may need to argue.
