Not a topic I expect to do well on the same level as "show us your smartphone homescreen", but having been bored and needing to replace the oled panel on my OnePlus 6 led me to here.

Boredom got me to do the following:

Change the cracked screen
Take the film off the back cover to become transparent to see the internals (battery mainly)
Thermal paste mod on the motherboard to make the phone run cooler.

The paste mod definitely worked as it doesn't get warm anymore and the clear transparent back is just cool.

I'll be ordering a new battery then I can put the seals back on the rear battery cover to hopefully safely seal it once again.

Anyone modify their old phones to get more life out of them or just to be different?

Changed batteries on iPhone 3GS and iPhone 6 to transform performance. I was amazed when battery gate came out because I thought it was well known.

Edited to add, changed my iPad Air screen and it was garbage. Bought a second and it was crap to. Realized I was $200 in to repair a 5 year old iPad and new base iPad is $300 so gave up. Can’t win them all.

I’ve changed a few phone screens. Biggest problem is finding good quality spares. Last one I did I used a genuine Apple screen from another wrecked phone. Too many times I’ve purchased from Amazon or eBay and the screen goes faulty after a week or so.

Thread is useless without pics!

In the past have modified a few of my old Android phones, mainly just software these days, got a Nexus One running Ubuntu.

Not a phone, but I changed the screen on a nexus7 tablet the once, went very well and was chuffed with it.

Two weeks later I left it lying on the settee, and the dog chewed the corner, splintering the new screen.

Only just managed to take pics, not of the internals though. That's too long a job to open the phone back up again. Pics taken on a S10 Ultra sent to my phone

I added a bit of a Snapseed filter on this one for no reason

Battery has seen better days but I'll get that changed in due course. Might even put some bright sticker over it JerryRigEverything style.
