If I use my phone to listen to the radio on via an app, such as Kerrang or Talkradio, how much data does it use?

27 gigawatts

I don’t know. Check the data use in settings, listen to the radio for half an hour, check it again, do the maths

So, it looks like 1mb a minute. Not really on for an 80 hour week in the tractor...

Ir might be more cost effective to use something like Spotify, where you can download tracks to your phone over Wi-Fi and listen to them later offline.

You can buffer Radio Paradise for up to 12hrs, and there are 4 “channels”, so 48hrs in total.

Just make sure you’re on wifi not cellular data when you fill those buffers... hehe

Hi,

I've been streaming radio via the free TuneIn app since around 2013 when driving. I used to look at how much data it would use over a month as at the time with a contract I was doing, my mileage was perhaps on average around 600-850 per week. I recall using perhaps 1 to 1.5 or 1.7 GB of data. As I've been on an unlimited data tariff for perhaps 2/3 years now, and prior to that around 8-12GB allowance, I don't bother monitoring anymore.

Cheers, Dennis!

I've playlists and albums downloaded/stored offline with the Spotify app. I do the same with podcasts to listen to discussions, interviews, and catch ups from radio shows.
Everything auto downloads whilst on Wi-Fi so is automatically stored on the phone when I pick it up in the morning.

Might be worth looking into to see if that type of regime will work for you. It all depends on what you listen to I guess.

^that

Android phone tells you data usage by each app in networks- data usage. So use it for a day and see. Also lets you set a data limit so you get a warning before exceeding it. I imagine apples do similar. Or dump that zero that is your phone contract, you can get unlimited for 20pm ffs.

It looks as if the two you mentioned are broadcast on DAB Radio - maybe that is the right solution?

For £30 odd quid a month - you can have unlimited unthrottled data, voice and text.

I have 3 EE sims on this.
