Laptop at start up

Over the last two weeks, whenever I switch o my Acer laptop there's a brief screen of vertical stripes in black and white. It lasts maybe half a second before going to the Acer screen.
Is it something to be worried about?

Sounds like your GPU is either on the way out or needs a driver update; unfortunately I'd say the former is probably correct.

Does it only do this after opening up the screen or does it do it even if the screen was already open?

If it's the former, it "could" be the ribbon cable connecting the screen to the motherboard, could be worth reseating it.

Laptop is about a year old but gets well used.
It's only happens when I switch it on, not every time but more so from cold.
