We were happy EE customers. Have switched to NowTV and went live yesterday.

New router and speed all great BUT we have a VOIP office phone plugged into the hardwired house network and since switching providers it's dropping out for a split second losing the call.

Having googled a bit it seems we're not alone. As per internet suggestions I've logged into the router and changed the giga-ethernet setting down to 'fast' - giving a speed reduced from 1000 to 100. Everything still works fine but phone still drops calls so that didn't work - am about to change it back.
Anybody know if there's an easy way around this? I've read other suggestions of buying a pair of homeplugs to plug the phone into - which is ridiculous.

Now TV 'tech advice' were struggling with the concept of a VOIP phone earlier, asking me to plug it directly into the BT socket, got someone more useful tonight and they have just confirmed it's 'a known problem' and they've had lots of homeworkers with similar unfixable issues.

Do the PH experts know a way around this without having to go through switching providers again?

If you're happy to spend a bit of money, buy a better router. I've used Asus in the past and been very happy with them.

Thanks for the reply - not bad - 4 minutes smile
Is it that simple? Just buy a decent router and I'll be sorted?

We're currently supporting a few hundred WFH users and Now TV/SKY are the only network we haven't been able to get a solution for. The problem is that the routers fail on SIP ALG and there's no modem only option on their routers, and they won't give you the details you need to set up your own ADSL router as that would enable you to use a different DNS server and selling your usage data is a key part of their business model.

That was bleak, sorry. A soft phone on your PC or mobile phone might be an option.

Bingo.
Arse.
That backs up what the internet was telling me.
Many thanks - am I free to choose any other broadband provider or are there others out there waiting to surprise me?

Just to update this if anybody else is also self harming as result of NowTV VOIP dropouts there is as above NO way around it right now other than switching providers.
If you're with Sky (same company!) they have introduced a replacement router that WILL fix the SIP ALG problem and allow VOIP phones to be used successfully via their broadband.
NowTV as yet haven't got their VOIP-compatible router so NowTV customers are stuck with bean tins and string.
Arrgghh.
