I copied some JPGs from my phone to my laptop, and once they'd been copied and I could confirm they were in the new folder I cleared them from the phone.

Some of them, the most recent ones, are showing as 2gb+ whereas on the phone they would have been standard 2-5MB images. No software will recognise them as bitmaps, and they're too big to inspect in any of the text editors I have.

Any ideas, anyone come across this before? I vaguely remember it happening once before but it was only one photo so just thought it was a random corruption - this seems to be systematic in that it's every image after a certain date.

Had this on my wife's old phone. It turned out they were corrupted on the original phone. No way to recover.

Were they still viewable on the phone though? These were, up until I deleted them. Only thing I can think is that I'd had low memory warnings on the phone for the last week or so, and that messed up the storage somehow.

JPGs, all the rest transferred fine. Huawei Mya11, Android 6.0 to Windows 10. USB cable using File Manager/Explorer.

They were viewable on my wife's phone too, but only as thumbnails! Have a look at Google photos. Maybe they got backed up there and then you can recover them that way.

Out of interest, had your wife let the phone get too full, so there wasn't much storage capacity left? I'm wondering if that's what caused this as otherwise I've had zero problems with file transfers

Yes it was quite full and was only the last 4 or 5 photos she took. Did you check Google photos to see if they were backed up?

Yeah it wasn't set to backup, probably because I didn't want it constantly uploading stuff, and uploading kills the WiFi speed in our house. No biggie, will know for next time not to let it get full.
