I have an email domain through Fasthosts and I use Microsoft Outlook - every day I receive c40 spam emails - very annoying frown

I've approached Fasthosts and they aren't able to stop it - very annoying.

I've tried using Outlook's inbuilt filters but all they do is move stuff to a Junk folder and you still have to trawl through them to check if anything important has been moved there.

What can I do to stop them before they arrive? I've tried using the block function in Outlook, but they seem to have multiple extensions for every email, so you never get on top of it - imagine spam emails being fired from a Gattling gun and you get the idea.

Is there a way I can keep my email address (bought from Fasthosts some time ago) but have a alternative front end to stop the spam?

I have some IT knowledge, but not much, so simple advice would be very helpful and thanks.

The problem you'll find once you start down this route is that no matter what you try you'll end up with false positives/negatives.

You'll miss some spam and it'll end up in your inbox... this isn't the end of the world, but still annoying. But far worse than that, in your quest to stop spam you'll get false positives, and you'll end up blocking or nuking email that wasn't spam at all.

Indeed, it's worse still than that... ask 10 people if a given email example is spam and you'll get different answers. If we can't agree what hope does a computer have.

I fear that from your answers the best option isn't really one you can access, by that I mean running your own mailserver with your own spam filters, that you can tweak and train to your own preferences.

That aside, have you considered using fasthosts to forward your email to someone like gmail, where they run spam filters for you? Those are the only real options I can see, run your own mailservers or use someone elses that does filtering.

I’ve switched to hey.com

The ability to screen senders is brilliant and I actually look forward to reading through my imbox...

Rather than dreading it!

That's what I'd try if the keyword is simple and something the OP can easily test without needing any third party help.

I'd use gmail with your domain.

Their spam filters are excellent.

I use gmail and very rarely get any junk coming through. I also use Outlook and get junk everyday.
