I got given (for free in a long story) a nice Casio Edifice solar powered watch. I was told by Timpsons that it needs a new capacitor instead of a battery. This at a cost of £55.

Anyone done this themselves? I don't fancy chucking £55 at it as I don't wear it all that often and have got a reasonable old Accurist that gets some "wrist time" if needs be.

Worth flogging as u/s??

The replacement for most Casio solar powered watches is a Panasonic cell that looks very similar to a normal lithium battery and replacement is simply swapping out old for new without wires or soldering.

Unless it's a special I wouldn't pay £55 as for a fiver more you can get a brand new Edifice on the High Street https://www.argos.co.uk/product/3428005

This is one that is retailing at about £350 in most shops. I'll have a look at the replacement cell thanks.

Might be worth getting in touch with Casio support, I've sent watches back to them in the past for repair and they are very reasonable (staff in one of the high street jewelers quietly pointed me in their direction).
