Hiya people, I ordered a new 160 gig HD, which has arrived. Ive fitted it the usual way as a slave. It seems to be working fine, but in both windows(xp pro, sp2) and the BIOS, it only shows up as 30gig.

My first hd is 80 gig, so I didnt expect this. This new hd is UDMA133, I checked, and my MB can cope with this... so I suspect this is not the problem!? I tried looking this up but to no avail.

Thanks for any advice!

Thanks for reading... but I worked it out. Turns out I had the jumpers set to limit the HD to 32GB... quite why you would buy a 160 gb hd and limit it to 32 is beyond me...I'm probably missing something!

So it would work on an earlier OS.

And not be sent back automatically by the purchaser as not working when that earlier OS bombed out because it couldn't be read.

So it is really a way of getting people to talk to more tech savvy people before sending it back as not working, a techie would realise the jumper problem sooner (they hope) than a non techie person.
