Never had a PAYG mobile - always on contract
Eldest was given telephone for Christmas and so I thought a PAYG sim was the safest method.

Bought a supercharged 3 sim from a three store for 99p. Bought a £15 20gb month-long bundle online yesterday and applied it to the phone.
Message this am “you are out of credit”- check the app and the purchase is registered - there are no details of other charges etc.

I’m an hour into the live chat and, apparently, I didn’t log in again to apply the £15 to activate the bundle I had purchased to the account so three decided to use it as random credit - they’ve charged £14.30 for 430mb of data yesterday...

I have always found Three support to be the worst going unfortunately.

So it’s effectively your fault, hardly 3 being thieves or it even being an issue with them ... classic PICNIC scenario rofl

Hardly PICNIC if I followed the prompts on screen to get it to the account...
If I contract to buy a product or service for £15 and the vendor then fails to apply the payment I have made towards that good/service but instead charges me for a service I have not contracted for I think the problem is with them. Of course it is in their interest to try to charge £14.30 for 430mb in a day rather than 20Gb over a month...

Except as you said yourself, you didnt log in to apply your credit to your account ...

Could it have been more straight forward - potentially Yes
Is it Three stealing - No

At least you have learned by error, everyday is a school day (as they say)

Except it was applied to the account - three sent a text confirming it had been applied to that number but failed to say I had to jump through a further hoop to activate the bundle I had bought...

Anyway I’ll leave you to it - you’ve clearly got a lot more time to post than I have judging by your post count

It’s not clear at all, a £15 data bundle should be exactly that, once it’s assigned to a number or it should sit unused until it has been allocated.

I found 3 confusing and utterly hopeless too, but Virgin are no better, I think the whole mobile industry is due a damn good shake up.

I find generally that they say there's a local mast either faulty or being upgraded and that things will be better in a few days. Then when you phone back in a few days because it's no different, you get a different person and it starts all over again. I find that going to the local Three shop (when it's allowed to be open) gets a more honest response.

I had to contract for a new phone i bought new direct from Apple.

I set up new pay monthly contract with o2. Unlimited texts and calls 8gb data. Wi-fi calling etc.

It now looks as though if I share my ‘contact details’ it costs me 52p a time to do so, classed as a picture message.Dodgy gits.

MMS messages have always cost on top of any contract at an extortionate amount. Just adding a smiley to a text message makes it MMS and will cost you 40-50p.

Also, why wasnt your son using wifi? Was he outside watching films on Christmas day?
