Want a tablet to control spotify in the kitchen via sonos. The fire hd 8 inch is £69. Samsung a6 which is 8 inch I think is around 110 in currys. Any preference on which is better. are amazon apps updated very often?

I got a couple of fires fir my kids, I found the apps and os terrible, swapped them for iPad minis.

I prefer Samsung and the Sonos app on my s20 works well and seems to update as much as my wife's iOS

Dont touch Fire tablets with a barge pole.
They are made to give to kids who dont know any better.

Are there that bad even for simple sonos use? I've never used one. Thanks for replies.

I haven't used one for Sonos control but Fires are fine for basic use. Of course it'll struggle to compete with a £400 iPad mini.

Just downloaded the app for our ageing 10" and it looks just like the android app on my phone.

The Fire will be more than adequate as a remote - I picked up the latest 8 plus on ebay for my brother for £70 (it's got 3gb RAM instead of 2gb, and has wireless charging, which might be very handy for a remote) I de-bloated it of Amazon crap, added the Google Play store and Nova Launcher and it's just like any other Android tablet now - you only see Amazon's input when you venture into settings - it's been rock solid for over a month now, and surprisingly nippy with all the ste disabled.
I used these guides, essentially you want to get Google Play on there and download Nova Launcher before you start disabling things -

Strangely, I was given an HD8 7th gen on Saturday - I'm also planning to use it as a remote, whenever I get my bd Raspberry Pi functioning that is...

If its primary purpose is simply to control Sonos then you should be fine with the Fire HD device, uninstall apps you dont need. Maybe even install Google Play Store so Sonos is installed through that.

They are cheap devices, never expect much of them. Of course its not going to perform the same as a £400 Apple device, even a 2nd hand one.

Have a +1 from me. This toolbox made it so much easier to get rid of some/all Amazon as required and to get Play store on

My new fire HD 10 (79.99 in the sale..) is far superior to my 3 year old ipad in most areas
My wife had one, I was impressed & got another for office.
Eg SkyGo is 100% stable, ipad bombs out depressingly
I’m sure new Ipad is a lot better, but got 80 quid it’s a bargain (when you delete the Amazon stuff)
