Outlook Express - where are the emails stored??
Discussion
Hi guy's,
Probably a really dumb question - but where in outlook express 5 (or where ever.....) are the emails stored??
I've taken the old HDD out of my Dad's PC to transfer stuff over to his new PC - where are the old mails stored??? Tried the new import wizard thingy on XP and thats about as much use as a one legged man in an ass kicking contest.....
Cheers

Have you tried the import / export bit within Outlook Expess (I think it's got one - I use Outlook) rather than anything generic to XP - recently bought a laptop for work & exported my emails to it with few problems.
Other than that, when my Mrs rises, I'll ask her as she is the IT whizz in the house...

Depends on your operating system (ie xp, win98, etc.) but usually found in documents and settings->(user name)->Local Settings->Identities->{long number}->Microsoft->Outlook express.
The "local settings" folder is a hidden one so you will need to enable the viewing of hidden folders.
Not sure if copying these files across will allow you to see them, I doubt it but you can try. If not you may be able to import these in some way - again not sure. I hate outlook express myself!

Tells you all you need to know.
If the old machine is Win 9X then the info is right. If it's a later version, 2K etc then the files will be in
