My PC(Zoostorm) has decided not to recognise my CF cards. I’ve tried different readers and different CF cards, but it still won't recognise them. No problem with SD cards. It does recognise the card via the camera though.
Any ideas on how to rectify this?

Is it a card reader one you plug in to your PC via a USB port?
Have you tried another port and let Windows discover it and install the drivers again, if it's a front case USB try one of the motherboard USB ports at the back.

I’ve tried all the ports and it refuses to acknowledge their existence.

Windows. Just checked and all updates current. The PC is only 6 months old and has been fine until last week when it started playing up.

Only other thing to try is find the card reader in device manager and uninstall the device, unplug the reader reboot the PC and plug it back into the same USB port and let Windows find it and install everything again.

That’s the problem. I can’t find it in my device manager

£5.99 for a usb cf reader on Amazon, not really worth spending much time trying to diagnose the issue unless for curiosity’s sake.

I’ve tried different CF readers though. I don’t think buying another one is going to make much difference tbh

Oh I see...

Try disk manager, see if you can see it from there? Maybe drive letters clashing?

Didn't you say you can still read SD cards so it should be listed, it won't be listed on it's own it will be in a section, probably under the memory technology devices section perhaps.

To be clear ....

Is this a multi-card reader, which can read cf and sd cards ... that is the implication from your posts?

Something like this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Integral-Multi-Card-Reade...

If so, have you tried the card reader on another PC / Laptop .. can it read CF cards there?

If a multi-card reader can read SD cards and not CF then the suggestion would be that the CF slot is damaged.

I doubt it’s damaged on all my CF readers. I have 3. The PC doesn’t recognise any of them with a CF in but it recognises each reader when an SD card is installed. It will recognise a CF card when it’s still in the camera though.

Is this with multiple CF cards or just one?

Every CF card. I have two Sandisk. 64GB I use on my Canon 5D2 and a 128GB I use on my 7D2. I have 3 readers and I’ve tried every possible combination on all USB ports with no success.

Do you have another PC or Laptop to try with the card readers?

No, the issues lies with my current PC. 3 different readers and 2 different cards point to that.

No, it could point to an issue where one of your cards has damaged all of your CF readers. What happens when you leave the card in the camera and then plug the camera in?
